In mid-November, Founder and President Mary Gordon travelled to Nova Scotia to celebrate Roots of Empathy’s history and present impact in the province. Provincial Manager, Lauren Caines hosted a celebration locally in Halifax for Instructors, Mentors, supporters and volunteer families. A special highlight of the trip to Nova Scotia was a visit to  St. Joseph’s-Alexander McKay Elementary School to share the energy and hope that a Tiny Teacher is providing to grade 2 students around the “Green Blanket”.

A visit to St. Joseph’s-Alexander McKay Elementary

Mary Gordon  joined Chris Boulter, Executive Director, Education, Innovation, Programs and Services for the Nova Scotia Department of Education and Early Childhood Development to witness Tiny Teacher Tyrus help children develop emotional literacy around the “Green Blanket” at  St. Joseph’s-Alexander McKay Elementary.

Great thanks to the Grade 2 class, Tyrus’s mom Jalana, Tiny Teacher Tyrus, and ROE Instructor Patricia for sharing their class on November 10th, and demonstrating the value of empowering children to love themselves and realize that our differences may define us but our similarities connect us.

Mary capped off her visit to Nova Scotia by meeting with our colleague, Danny Graham, from Engage Nova Scotia. Danny shared with our team the valuable information that his organization is gathering on the current wellbeing of Nova Scotians across the province.
